Services offered by M-Power
| Counselling |
We offer a counselling service
for those men who wish to engage in a longer term relationship with us.
Counselling can be particularly useful for men who are experiencing disruption
to their normal everyday lives where "normality" seems to elude them.
The counselling service is offered by specially trained, qualified
counsellors.
We offer both face-to-face counselling or a telephone counselling
service.
Face-to-face counselling
We offer face-to-face counselling for men who are survivors
of childhood sexual abuse, adult-life rape, emotional or physical abuse or
domestic violence. This would take place in our office in Central Norwich. We
would have to meet you first so that we can both be sure that the counselling
service is likely to be beneficial. This is called an initial assessment and
you would meet your counsellor at this assessment. If we agree to go ahead
after the initial assessment, then you would meet with your counsellor for 1
hour at an agreed time every week. During a session, you may discuss anything
you wish and cover any topic you like with your counsellor. Your counsellor
commits to confidentiality, to be non judgemental and to treat you with respect
at all times.
Telephone Counselling
We offer this service for men who are not within easy reach
of Norwich City or for those who would prefer this way of working. Ideally, the counselling is a mixture of face-to-face work and
telephone counselling. Once every 4 weeks you would meet your counsellor for a
1 hour session. In between these sessions, your counsellor would call you once
a week at a mutually agreed time for a 1 hour telephone counselling session. In
some circumstances, it may not be possible to have the face-to-face meetings so
we may set up a counselling arrangement with you which is just telephone
based.
Availability and
Charges
Please understand that we are not able to guarantee that you will immediately
be able to see a counsellor. All our counsellors are volunteers and the
availability of the service at any one time depends upon the availability of
the counsellors and whether it is possible to schedule your sessions into the
available slots.
The service is free of charge, but if you are a wage earner and can spare it,
we would appreciate a contribution to our running costs.
